In Defense of Mass Effect: Growing Up with Shepard

For the past 5 years I've been saving the galaxy in my spare time.  Intermittently of course.  Saving multiple civilizations is a tall order, and I couldn't just do it in a few days.

I finally completed Mass Effect 3.  I was one of the ones that waited.  I had heard all of the nasty things about the game and I decided I would wait for a price drop.  The day 1 DLC fiasco helped solidify my decision.  I would wait for a brand new/sealed copy off of eBay for half the price, and then buy the From Ashes DLC.  As I waited, I heard rumors of the ending controversies.  People were saying that what you did throughout the last 3 games didn’t really matter.  I was able to avoid the discussion and the ending wasn’t spoiled for me.  Due to the controversy, Bioware released the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut endings.

Help us Kickstart The Last Buck Hunt

Firstly, I would like to apologize for my lack of posts of late. Becky and I have been working hard on pre-production wizardry for our second feature film, The Last Buck Hunt. We are ridiculously excited to get started on it! We think every genre fan will love it. Since we want to push it a grade above our last films we are trying to raise extra fund through Kickstarter here: Support The Last Buck Hunt!

Any support or social sharing is extremely appreciated.

You can check out some more formation on the project on Indiestructible's site.

Gundam Stop Motion Battle Blows My Mind

I have always wanted to do stop motion. The one time I tried I realized that I have neither the technical prowess or patience to succeed at it. Every time I see great stop motion videos it makes me jealous. Enjoy this one, because it kicks ass.

30 Hours with Xenoblade Chronicles

I guess I should preface this with the fact that I grew up loving JRPGs.  However, lately they’ve been in sharp decline.  For quite a few years, a JRPG hasn’t been able to hold my attention.  As an adult I’ve had too many games to play, and too little time.  Then Xenoblade Chronicles appeared.

30 GoPro Cameras and Bullet Time

What happens when you create a rig with 30 GoPro cameras? Awesome surfing videos, that's what! Ripcurl released this badass surfing video where time stops and the viewer can move through the scene. It is the same idea of that The Matrix used for all of its spin-around-the-character-bullet-time shots. Since GoPros are so cheap and robust we will be seeing a lot more of these kick ass videos.

Apologetics of a Gamer

Gaming is an essential part my life. There is something about great games that can sooth a person's soul. This French video really encapsulates what it is like to invest your love and passion into games. Everything about this video is reigns true for gamers. It is awesome to see video/computer game deconstructed with depth and understanding. Too many times do we take the macho road and express our love for games through our joy of violence. It is much more than than that. The violence is pretty awesome, but there is something else there that pulls people. Hopefully, now the that the gaming industry is smashing every other entertainment medium we will start to see more meditations on what it is to be a gamer.

Borderlands 2 - Shut and Take My Money

Borderlands 2. It looks like the first Borderlands (which is enough) and the trailer already sold me. I am not a hard sell though. If you mix hardcore action, pink bold titles, a dancing robot, and dubstep you might as well just take the money directly out of my bank account. The dancing robot bit in the trailer is just priceless. CL4P-TP (Claptrap) FTW. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Awesome yet Improbable Ideas, Part 1: Ninja Kids

Though there may be some drawbacks, I think the advantages of training children to be stealthy martial arts masters are far greater.

Awesome Albums: Give the People What They Want

Give the People What They Want by The Kinks is one of my favorite albums. It was my first introduction to the band that would become one of my favorites. I started listening to the album heavily when I was experience some mental angst looking for sociopolitical view of life that was different from my young less polished views.

Skyrim Addiction: Coming Down

Skyrim is now over. Yup. I did do most side quests, every guild/group quest-line, and (obviously) the main quests, as well as hit 100% trophies (achievements for you platform neutral folks).

Aliens Plus Moon Equals Awesome

Two things I love in this world are Aliens and Moon. Take Clint Mansell's beautifully harrowing score and slap it on a Aliens Colonial Marines game trailer and you have me hooked. The game will be out in the fall. It will feature multiplayer co-op against aliens. Yup you and your friends can do squad based combat against ALIENS. I have been waiting for this game since I was 12 years old. I am just praying it delivers like the Left 4 Dead series. Check out the trailer after the jump!

Things to Love about Michael Mann's The Keep

Just because a film is dated, it doesn't mean that it can't be awesome. This is exactly the case with Michael Mann's 1983 film, The Keep. Said film is awesome for two reasons: (1) its philosophical questions about power, evil, and suffering espoused by excellent actors and (2) its trippy laser light show action.

Skyrim Addiction: Cooking Dinner

You know your addiction to Skyrim is bad when you base your cooking decisions on what is realistic to prepare during Skyrim load screens.

Skyrim Addiction: Sleeping In

I am addicted to Skyrim. After my first hit I knew that was it. It is terrible. Every damn RPG that comes out I get addicted to. I guess addiction runs in my family.

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning Is Pretty Awesome

The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo is out and it delivers. Sure, I had to peel myself away from Skyrim to download it, but I am extremely glad I did. Take Todd McFarlane's fantastic artistic style that blends brutality with beauty then let R.A. Salvatore craft a clear and complex story and you get Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Play the game for a little over ten minutes and you will feel yourself being sucked in my the pristine design and excellent storytelling.
